QC/UCT Challenge Cup
Hello Soccer Club Representatives,

Please see "Invitation to Play" below from the Queen City South United and UCT Soccer Clubs:

Hi All,

As you know, the QC/UCT Challenge Cup is being held the weekend of June 7, 8, and 9, 2013. In addition to our regular Tournament format, we will be showcasing a U8 event featuring 3 v. 3 with two small goals at either end of the playing field. This game is known as "Funino" (Futbol a la medida del Nino), which has been played at the Grass Roots level for many years, originating in Spain, spreading to Germany and other European nations, and now being promoted in other parts of the world. The main purpose is to enhance soccer intelligence and creativity which young players will be able to take with them as they grow and develop, all the while enjoying a fun, fast paced, game with lots of scoring!

Here's how it works:

1. 4 players per Team, 3 on the field at one time, substitute after each goal is scored.

2. No score is kept. If one Team is obviously having their way with the other however, the weaker Team simply brings their 4th player on the field, and the game continues 4 v. 3.

3. The field is 25 yards wide by 30 yards long. 2 goals at either end, each are 3' x 5', with 6 yards between them.

4. There is a 6 yard scoring zone extending from the end line into the playing field. Goals can only be scored by a shot from inside the scoring zone. No goalkeepers.

5. Play is started by a coach throwing the ball in the air at half field. When the ball goes out of bounds, there is a re-start. When the ball goes out the end line, the defending Team re-starts from their 6 yard line. No corner kicks. A re-start can consist of a pass to a teammate, or a "self-pass" and then dribble up the field. When a goal is scored, the re-start occurs at the centre line. The opposition must allow 5 yards of space for all re-starts.

6. If there is a foul, or a hand ball in the scoring zone, a "penalty attack" occurs. In this case, the offending Team places one of their players on its own end line. The opposing Team designates 1 player with the ball at half. All other players, on both Teams, must be 5 yards behind the player at half. On instruction from the Coach, the player at half advances toward the opposition goals, while the player on the end line comes out to meet in a 1 v.1 scenario. At the same time, the other players are allowed to run back into the play, so there is pressure from behind. Play continues until a goal is scored or the ball goes out of bounds.

7. The game consists of 3 x 10 minute periods of play, with a rest period between each.

In order to introduce all of the Clubs to this style of play, we are asking that each Club invite 8 boys and 8 girls to participate in our Showcase. In total, we will have 64 players, broken into 8 boys Teams and 8 girls Teams, each with 4 players. Each Team will then play 3 games. The cost will be $10 per player, which will include a hot dog/drink token.

Please join us in sharing the fun of this new format. In that regard, we would need to hear from you no later than May 27, 2013, with confirmation of your Teams and players.

Thank you
Sam Hockings - President QC Club
Hugh Dooley - Technical Director QC Club
Dwayne Head - Head Coach QC Club
Jim Kroczynski - Event Coordinator QC Club

A Sincere Thank You
UCT Soccer Club and the QCT Tournament Committee would sincerely like to thank Chris Parrott (Sutton Results Realty N) for the use of his trailer. It was greatly appreciated.

UCT Soccer Club was started to give all children who would like to play soccer the opportunity to do so.  We offer many ways to fundraise to work off fees.  We have Bingos, Mom's Pantry and many other fundraising opportunities.  The club tries to develop players to be the best they can be while still making it fun to play.  We offer both Division 1 and 2 for youth 4-18 and also adult league.
